Florida Company Recalls Toxic Toothpaste Made in China

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

With all the reports of tainted food and goods coming from China, why are we still allowing anything to be imported from there?

In the wake of WND’s report of the long, deadly history of Chinese-made toothpaste, a Florida company today issued a nationwide recall for toothpaste it imported from China and distributed to wholesalers, warning the product could contain a poisonous chemical.

Though no injuries or illnesses have been reported, Gold City Enterprise LLC of Hallandale Beach acknowledged the roughly 170,000 recalled toothpaste products may have the contaminant diethylene glycol – a solvent used in antifreeze that killed 107 Americans when it was introduced in an elixir 70 years ago.

The company is urging consumers to stop using the products and throw them away, or return them to their place of purchase.

The brands in question are Shir Fresh Mint Flouride, Shir Fresh Ice Shir Mint Flouride and Shir Fresh Cool Shir Mint Flouride. They were all distributed in the South Florida area.

Zacchaeus - A Bible Story Mural

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a ’sinner.’ “

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”

Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”
Luke 19:1-10 (New International Version)

Children’s Sunday School Song:
Zacchaeus was a wee little man, and a wee little man was he.
He climbed up in a sycamore tree, for the Lord he wanted to see.
And as the Savior passed him by, He looked up in the tree,
And he said, “Zacchaeus, you come down from there;
For I’m going to your house today, for I’m going to your house today.”

“Every child that has grown up in Sunday School knows the story of the “wee little man” that climbed into a sycamore tree to see Jesus. What a display of the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ that he would reach out to the hated tax collector who had cheated many people.”

Cathedral To Demand Sony Apology for Images Used in Violent Game

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

I have to think that with all of the setting available to them, why did the game designers decide to use a cathedral as the backdrop of a violent video game?

Church of England officials will send a letter to Sony demanding an apology over the use of Manchester Cathedral as a backdrop for a violent computer game.

They will ask the technology firm to remove images of the building from the game, and to provide backing to anti-gun campaigns in the city.

A cathedral spokesman said the Church had received many e-mails of support.

Sony said it had “all permissions necessary” to develop the Playstation game, entitled Resistance: Fall of Man.

But Church officials dispute that, and earlier threatened legal action against the firm.

The cathedral’s David Marshall said Church leaders would meet on Monday to draft a letter and discuss what other action to take.

He said the letter would make four demands:

  • An apology for using the cathedral
  • Withdrawal of the game, or modification of the section of the game to remove the cathedral interior
  • Sony to make a substantial donation from the games’ profits allowing the cathedral’s education department to target more effectively those aged 18 to 30
  • Sony to support other groups in Manchester fighting against gun crime.
  • Community groups and MPs have expressed support for the Church’s stance against the game, which has sold more than one million copies so far.

Sony said it would contact the cathedral authorities on Monday “to understand their concerns in more detail”.

Rabbis Curse Jerusalem Gay Parade

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Fern Sidman sent me this email concerning a group of Rabbis who are going to “curse” the Jerusalem gay parade. Although their rhetoric is a bit strong for my taste, their heart is in the right place, in their wish to prevent this depravity from coming to the most Holy city on the face of this planet.
Listen folks, Christians and Jews alike need to understand that there are just some things that God is not going to give you pass on. He doesn’t always until your dead to confront you with your sins and lack of attention to His Word. He is likely to do something well before that.

Rabbis curse Jerusalem gay parade

Rabbis from a small anti-Zionist Jewish sect on Sunday pronounced a curse over all who participate in next week’s gay “pride” parade in Jerusalem, and vowed to stage a massive demonstration against it.

Following the ruling by the rabbinical court of the Eda Haredit sect, posters were put up throughout Jerusalem carrying the following warning:

“To all those involved, sinners in spirit, and whoever helps and protects them, may they feel a curse on their souls, may it plague them and may evil pursue them; they will not be requitted of their transgressions from heavenly judgment.”

The group also said that it will stage a massive demonstration against the planned gay parade next Sunday in Jerusalem. Organizers of the event expect 100,000 participants.

While the Eda Haredit is not particularly large in numbers, many from Israel’s more mainstream Orthodox Jewish community are expected to join forces with the sect in the effort to prevent Jerusalem’s streets from becoming a platform for mass lewdness.

Jerusalem Police officials on Monday were still deliberating whether or not they can secure the parade and enforce an adequate level of public safety.

Hamas, Fatah Truce Collapses in Bloodshed, 13 Dead

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Continuing to not have much success at killing innocent Israelis, the pali terrorist are having a hard time finding something constructive to do with all their hatred and violence, so they have decided to continue to kill each other instead.
When is the world going to figure out that these people are not capable of creating and maintaining a country? They are nothing more than terrorist. That is all they are and that is all they are ever going to be.

GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian gunmen battled inside a hospital and fired on the prime minister’s office during factional fighting on Monday that killed 13 people and cast fresh doubt over the future of the unity coalition.

“Everybody is shooting at everybody,” a doctor at the Beit Hanoun hospital in the northern Gaza Strip said as a gunbattle raged between the Islamist Hamas and secular Fatah groups, hours after the latest in a series of ceasefires collapsed.

The death toll for the day was one of the highest in the internal strife, in which some 630 Palestinians are estimated to have been killed since Hamas beat Fatah in a 2006 election.

At the hospital, a member of Hamas’s Executive Force, two Fatah fighters and another person, who was not immediately identified, were killed and 19 people wounded, medical officials said.

In separate violence in the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahiya, Jamal Abu al-Jedian, a co-founder of Fatah’s al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, was killed in a Hamas assault on his house. His home was attacked after a Hamas fighter was killed.

“Help us. They want to kill us,” a woman inside the house pleaded earlier in a telephone call to a radio station.

Jedian’s brother was seized by Hamas gunmen and was later found dead, Fatah officials said.

The fighting doomed an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire announced just hours before and cast a shadow over long-term prospects for the coalition that Hamas and Fatah formed three months ago.

The hospital battle, waged inside and outside the facility, was triggered by the fatal shooting of a bodyguard of an intelligence officer affiliated with President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah faction.

Relatives of the dead man and Fatah fighters then stormed the hospital, which is guarded by the Executive Force, a security contingent loyal to Hamas.

In Gaza City, two Hamas fighters and a Fatah gunman were killed in clashes along with a 72-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl whose home was hit in the crossfire, hospital official said.

Armey Accuses Democrats of ‘Triple-Breasted Schizophrenia’ On Gas Prices

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Folks, if you want gas prices to go down, you can two things.
1) Stop driving your cars. Walk or ride a bike.
2) Pressure the legislature to allow more domestic drilling and building of refineries.
Although the later choice will take more time (several years at best) show results, it is the best long term solution.

Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey is criticizing Democrats for not fulfilling their promise to reduce gasoline prices once they took control of Congress.

Last spring Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-California) accused President Bush and House Republican leaders of “empty rhetoric” on skyrocketing gas prices. Now the tables are being turned. Dick Armey is lashing out at Democrats in Congress who will not approve greater exploration of gasoline from the country’s own domestic resources — in places like the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

He says Speaker Pelosi and her fellow Democrats who recently passed a resolution against gasoline price gouging do not understand that prices at the pump go down when there are increases in supply or decreases in demand. The former Texas congressman contends there is little Congress can do to lower gas prices.

“Here’s something that’s going to blow Al Gore’s mind and send him back to the textbooks — the American gasoline industry at the retail level has historically been and still is today the first best example of a kinked oligopolistic demand curve,” he contends. “The fact of the matter is, it is in itself more self-correcting by virtue of that than any government policy can be.”

Armey says gas prices will continue to rise in the face of increasing world demand as long as Congress listens to “eco-evangelical henny pennies like Al Gore” who want to restrict energy use. And he confesses that Democrats “crack him up” when they pledge to reduce gasoline prices while telling people they need to diminish their consumption of gasoline.

“They got their political: ‘Gee, I hope to get your vote by promising you lower prices.’ Then they got their environmental: ‘We gotta find a way to get people to consume less gasoline.’ Then they got their egalitarian voice,” he adds. “You talk about schizophrenic, this is triple-breasted schizophrenia here.”

According to Armey, unless people in China and India stop heating their homes or driving their cars, increased prices of energy will continue in the absence of offsetting increases in the world’s supply of energy.

‘No Means No’ On Amnesty For Illegals

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

The people have spoken. We must continue to put pressure on our elected officials concerning this. The moment our attention is elsewhere, they will do exactly what they want to do. Keep the pressure on.

One of the conservative activist groups instrumental in at least temporarily derailing a Senate bill that would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens living in the U.S. warns the fight against the measure is far from over. The executive director of Eagle Forum says the recent downfall of the bill can be attributed in part to the strong activism of grassroots Americans.
Hear This Report

The Bush administration insists the so-called “comprehensive immigration reform” bill is not dead. Yesterday, a defiant President Bush told reporters, “I’ll see you at the bill signing.” The president plans to head to Capitol Hill this afternoon to meet with Republican senators in hopes of convincing them to embrace the bill.

Jennifer Echard, executive director of Eagle Forum, says the bill may be resurrected for debate, but grassroots Americans have made their opposition known. Echard observes that it is common knowledge that President Bush is “rather persistent when he thinks something is right.”

“But the American people are equally as persistent,” she counters, “and ‘no means no, Mr. President. No means no.’” The Eagle Forum spokeswoman says the American people do not want this bill,. “They don’t want to give legalization to all of the illegals who have come here and broken our laws,” she argues, “and, I think you’re going to see the coalition that formed to oppose the bill over the last few weeks continue to go strong.”

According to Echard, senators received an earful from their constituents. “No power is greater than the calls of constituents to senators,” she says, “and they were feeling the heat for a good two-and-a-half weeks straight.”

She believes the intensity of the sustained public reaction brought about its intended result. “I think the White House was surprised that the American people could be so persistent,” notes Echard. “I don’t think they doubted that the American people don’t actually want this bill — but the fact that they kept up the heat for [as long as they did] really forced senators to have to look long and hard about their vote.”

Both Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) have indicated their willingness to revive debate on the bill.

Washington Man Drowned Child for $200,000 Insurance Policy

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

It’s not only Muslims who kill their children for no reason. The man who did this is truly evil. No other word for it.

SEATTLE — The firefighters who tried to save 3-year-old Ashley McLellan, unconscious after being pulled from a pool on a winter night in 2003, noticed something strange about her stepfather: He was calm, mostly dry and never once asked them if she would live.

She didn’t, and Joel Zellmer was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of killing her in an attempt to collect on a $200,000 insurance policy — just one accusation in a string of accidents that investigators say Zellmer concocted to befall the young children of the women he dated.

Investigators say Zellmer has a history of dating single mothers, urging them to take out insurance policies and harming their children, including burning the hands of one and giving another a hot cup that blistered her lips.

Attorney Joe Hampton, who is representing Zellmer in a wrongful death lawsuit brought by Ashley’s mother and father, said he would not be representing Zellmer on the criminal charges and had no comment. It was unclear whether Zellmer had another lawyer.

The King County Sheriff’s Department has said it is not pursuing charges in the other cases because they happened as far back as 1990.

British Court Finds Muslim Father Guilty of Murdering Daughter in ‘Honor Killing’

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Yet another example of the (sarcasm on) “tolerant, loving, nurturing” nature of Islam (sarcasm off).
Take a moment to wonder how a father, who is supposed to love and care for his children, can allow himself to kill his own child for the sake of his “honor”. How does one reach this point? What is he being taught in Mosque that would allow him to even have this thought? We are constantly told how loving and tolerant Islam is, yet these ideas are still very prevalent among the Islamic populace.

LONDON — A father who ordered his daughter brutally slain for falling in love with the wrong man in a so-called “honor killing” was found guilty of murder on Monday.

Banaz Mahmod, 20, was strangled with a boot lace, stuffed into a suitcase and buried in a back garden.

Her death is the latest in an increasing trend of such killings in Britain, home to some 1.8 million Muslims. More than 100 homicides are under investigation as potential “honor killings.”

Mahmod Mahmod, 52, and his brother Ari Mahmod, 51, planned the killing during a family meeting, prosecutors told the court. Two others have pleaded guilty in the case. Two more suspects have fled the country. Sentencing is expected later this month.

The men accused the young woman of shaming her family by ending an abusive arranged marriage, becoming too Westernized and falling in love with a man who didn’t come from their Iraqi village. The Kurdish family came to Britain in 1998 when Banaz Mahmod was 11.

“She was my present, my future, my hope,” said Rahmat Suleimani, 29, Banaz Mahmod’s boyfriend.

During the three-month trial, prosecutors said Mahmod’s father beat his daughter for using hairspray and adopting other Western ways. Her uncle once told her she would have been “turned to ashes” if she were his daughter and had shamed the family by becoming involved with the Iranian Kurd, her sister 22-year-old Bekhal Mahmod testified.

Banaz Mahmod ran away from home when she was a teenager but returned when her father sent her an audio tape in which he warned he would kill her sisters, her mother and himself if she did not come home, her sister said.

She was later hospitalized after her brother attacked her, the sister told the court. The brother said he had been paid by their father to finish her off but in the end was unable to do it, said the sister, who testified in a full black burqa. She said she still feared for her own life.

The years of Banaz Mahmod’s abuse were compounded by police officers who repeatedly dismissed her cries for help.

She first went to police in December 2005, saying she suspected her uncle was trying to kill her and her boyfriend. She sent police a letter naming the men who she thought would later kill her.

On New Year’s Eve, she was lured by her father to her grandmother’s home, where she suspected he planned to attack her after he forced her to gulp down brandy and approached her while wearing gloves. She escaped by breaking a window and was treated at a hospital.

Police dismissed her suspicions, and one officer, who is under investigation, considered charging her with damages for breaking her grandmother’s window.

Laying in her hospital bed after the escape, Mahmod recorded a dramatic video message saying she was “really scared.”

The videotape, taken by her boyfriend at the hospital, was shown to the jury during the trial.

After she was released from the hospital, she returned home and tried to convince her family she had stopped seeing her boyfriend.

But friends told the family they spotted the couple together on Jan. 22, 2006.

Soon after, a group of men allegedly approached her boyfriend and tried to lure him into a car but he refused. It was that event that prompted Banaz Mahmod to go to police again. This time officers tried to persuade her to stay in a safe house. She refused, believing that her mother would protect her.

But her mother and father left her alone in the house the next day. Her boyfriend alerted police after time passed in which she failed to send him text messages.

Her body wasn’t discovered until three months later after police tracked phone records.

Britain has seen more than 25 women killed by their Muslim relatives in the past decade for offenses they believed brought shame on the family. More than 100 other homicides are under investigation as potential honor killings.

Some Muslim communities in Britain practice Sharia, or strict Islamic law.

“We’re seeing an increase around the world, due in part to the rise in Islamic fundamentalism,” said Diana Nammi with the London-based Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organization.
