Ruth Bell Graham Reported Near Death

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Please pray for Rev. Billy Graham and his family during this difficult time.

Ruth Bell Graham, the wife of evangelist Billy Graham, slipped into a coma this morning after suffering from pneumonia and is near death, according to a family spokesman.

Four of the couple’s five children are at their home in Montreat, N.C., and son Ned Graham is on his way, said A. Larry Ross.

Billy Graham issued a statement today saying he and his wife, who turned 87 Sunday, had decided to be buried next to each other at the Billy Graham Library in Billy Graham’s hometown of Charlotte.

“We have held this decision privately and only decided to announce it now that she is close to going home to heaven,” Billy Graham said. “Ruth is my soul mate and best friend, and I cannot imagine living a single day without her by my side. I am more in love with her today than when we first met over 65 years ago as students at Wheaton College.”

Graham, 88, said “Ruth and I appreciate, more than we can express, the prayers and letters of encouragement we have received from people across the country and around the world.”

“Our entire family has been home in recent days and it has meant so much to have them at our side during this time,” he said. “We love each one of them dearly and thank God for them.”

In December, the Washington Post reported the family was divided over the Grahams’ burial place, indicating Ruth objected to a site at a museum being built in Charlotte that was favored by son Franklin. Billy Graham responded to the story, stating he and Ruth would make the decision together privately.

Media Watchdog Says Networks’ Scant Immigration Coverage Tilted Left

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

No surprise here.

The Media Research Center (MRC) says the major television networks gave scant coverage to the fierce immigration reform battle that culminated in the defeat of the controversial Senate amnesty bill. The coverage the networks did do, according to the conservative media watchdog group, was slanted in favor of the illegal alien side.

MRC says when the bill was announced, the networks greeted the deal as good news, calling it a giant step toward immigration reform. MRC spokesman Rich Noyes notes that ABC called it a “giant step towards immigration reform.”

“Their reporter went out and talked to some of the illegal immigrants, and said quote, ‘There is a sense in the immigration community that this deal is almost too good to be true,’” says Noyes. And a reporter with CBS, he adds, interviewed an illegal alien maid who said the bill made her happy to the point of crying. “It was something that I think they all thought was a fine, wonderful bill …,” he states.

Noyes says on 47 occasions reporters matter-of-factly used the positive adjective “reform” to describe the Senate bill, but only twice did reporters refer to it as “amnesty.” Then, when opposition grew against the bill, the mainstream media mostly ignored it, he says.

“There were millions of people talking through talk radio and blogs and grassroots efforts who found this to be a deeply flawed bill,” says Noyes. “They thought it was highly controversial, but the liberals who run the big networks did not find it so and did not put very much attention whatsoever into covering the immigration story.”

Noyes says what coverage there was, was extremely biased. “Even the day it went down to defeat, Charlie Gibson on [ABC’s] World News Tonight seemed upset,” he says. “[Gibson] asked, this makes you wonder if our political system is really equipped to attack and solve the big problem.”

Noyes says the network’s coverage makes one wonder if they are still equipped to adequately cover big debates like immigration, or if that job has been yielded to “energetic talk radio.”

Pali Civil War - Anything But Civil

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

This statement says a lot about these people:
Witnesses say Fatah fighters executed in street as Hamas seizes key points.
Guess they have a policy of “take no prisoners”. Do you still think these people deserve their own country.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Hamas fighters overran one of the rival Fatah movement’s most important security installations in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, and witnesses said the victors dragged vanquished gunmen from the building and executed them in the street.

The capture of the Preventive Security headquarters was a major step forward in Hamas’ attempts to complete its takeover of all of Gaza.

The moderate President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah, for the first time in five days of fierce fighting, ordered his elite presidential guard to strike back. But his forces were crumbling fast under the onslaught by the better-armed and better-disciplined Islamic fighters.

Fatah officials said seven of their fighters were shot to death in the street outside Preventive Security. A witness, Jihad Abu Ayad, said the men were being killed before their wives and children.

“They are executing them one by one,” Abu Ayad said. “They are carrying one of them on their shoulders, putting him on a sand dune, turning him around and shooting.”

Some of the Hamas fighters kneeled down outside the building, touching their foreheads to the ground in prayer. Others led Fatah fighters out of the building, some of them shirtless or in their underwear, holding their arms in the air. Several of the Fatah men flinched as the crack of gunfire split the air.

“We are telling our people that the past era has ended and will not return, “ Islam Shahawan, a spokesman for Hamas’ militia, told Hamas radio. “The era of justice and Islamic rule have arrived.”

Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, heralded what he called “Gaza’s second liberation,” after Israel’s 2005 evacuation of the coastal strip.

The two factions have warred sporadically since Hamas took power from Fatah last year, but never with such intensity. Hamas reluctantly brought Fatah into the coalition in March to quell an earlier round of violence, but the uneasy partnership began crumbling last month over control of the powerful security forces.

Some 80 people, most of them militants, have been killed since a spike in violence Sunday sent Gaza into civil war. At least 15 people died on Thursday.

Hospitals were operating without water, electricity and blood. Even holed up inside their homes, Gazans weren’t able to escape fighting that turned apartment buildings into battlefields.

Moean Hammad, 34, said life had become a nightmare at his high-rise building near the Preventive Security headquarters.

“We spent our night in the hallway outside the apartment because the building came under crossfire in 2002,” Hammad said. “We haven’t had electricity for two days, and all we can hear is shooting and powerful, earthshaking explosions.

“The world is watching us dying and doing nothing to help. God help us, we feel like we are in a real-life horror movie,” he said.

Shaher Hatoum, a nurse at nearby Al Quds hospital, said the facility had no electricity, water or blood, and that wounded were propped up on ward floors. Hundreds of bullets flew through windows, and fighters ignored the hospital’s appeals to hold fire just long enough to have the generator and water pipes fixed, Hatoum said.

“We are waiting here for our end,” Hatoum said.

“Spectacular” Attacks Against US Forces Coming

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

A terror group is threatening spectacular attacks against US forces in Iraq. The attacks are thought to be planned for September and are aimed to cause Congress to deny funding to finish what we have started in Iraq. Our troops need our prayers daily. They are under attack in Iraq as well as by the liberals in their home country.

A new grass-roots activist group is warning that some “spectacular” attacks probably are being lined up against U.S. and coalition forces in the war on terror, especially in a few months as Congress will be evaluating the progress made in Iraq, and whether more funds should be allocated.

“We’re all pretty sure the enemy is looking at September to pull off some spectacular attacks,” Kristinn Taylor of Gathering of Eagles, told WND.

“Our enemies are using the Vietnam playbook. They understand very well that they’re not going to be able to defeat us militarily,” Taylor said. “The only way for them to win is to sap our political will at home.” Thus, what’s expected are high-profile attacks that would garner a lot of attention.

“Rapture At A Time Like This” by Todd Strandberg

Thursday, June 14th, 2007
All believers are commanded by the Lord Jesus to be looking for signs of His return. With indicators so abundant these days, the average Christian should have no trouble keeping track of the signs of the time. One end-time signal has nothing to do with warfare, earthquakes, floods, immorality, or villainous individuals. You could almost call it the anti-sign.

Most people don’t realize that apathy is the greatest indication of the last days. Jesus talked more about the lack of awareness than any other sign of times. The Lord said in Matthew 24:44, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

There is no contradiction here. All the indicators I have listed on the Rapture Index are guaranteed to be active when the Blessed Hope kicks off. The only problem is that the Church will be caught off guard when Jesus comes suddenly in the air.

The modern age of prophetic awareness can be traced back to 1844 with the start of the Miller movement. For 163 years, there has been continuous interest in Bible prophecy as it relates to the current generation. In the past few years, I have seen an amazing disconnect between prophecy and world events. As the signs grow stronger, Christians quickly become desensitized to their importance. News that would curl the toenails of prophecy watchers from the 1800s are yawned at by people of this age.

I have a growing list of end-time signs that I hope will show how profound the “think not” hour has become. These are all examples from today’s headlines:

This past week, the FBI reported that murders and robberies in 2006 sent U.S. violent crimes higher for the second straight year. The feds blamed the increase on gangs, youth violence, gun crimes and fewer police on beats. The FBI said the number of violent crimes nationwide went up by 1.3 percent last year, following a 2.3 percent increase in 2005. The public has zero interest in this report.A New York federal appeals court has ruled against the Federal Communications Commission in an indecency case involving the Fox channel. The court said the FCC actions were “arbitrary and capricious” and might not survive First Amendment scrutiny.

Under federal court rulings and commission rules, material is indecent if it “in context, depicts or describes sexual or excretory activities or organs in a patently offensive manner as measured by contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium.” Currently, indecent speech can be aired safely between 10 p.m.-6 a.m., and it can always used in news stories that talk about books, movies or plays with an expletives in its title.

What caused the FCC to try to fine Fox was the usage of the “F” and “S” words in the 2002 and 2003 broadcasts of the Billboard Music Awards. Singer Cher used the phrase “F— ‘em” and reality show star Nicole Richie said, “Have you ever tried to get cow s— out of a Prada purse?” The court basically gave the green light for an unscripted stream of profanity. What amazes me the most is the lack of reaction this ruling received from the moral watchdogs.

Iran’s president has just said that the Lebanese and the Palestinians have pressed a “countdown button” to bring an end to Israel. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has previously stirred international concern by calling for Israel to be “wiped off the map.” His latest remark received only passing coverage in the press.

In lasts week’s Nearing Midnight update, I reported how the Russian President has triggered fears of a new cold war. Putin said he would aim missiles at targets in Europe in retaliation for the U.S. decision to establish antimissile bases there. I was shocked that we didn’t receive a chorus of messages from people who were convinced that Putin was the Gog leader of Ezekiel 38 and 39.

In the Middle East, Israel and Syria have an almost fatalistic view that they will soon be at war with each other. Hezbollah is very eager to start up where it left off last year. Israel’s military has determined that Hezbollah, despite the expanded presence of the United Nations, rebuilt much or most of its force in southern Lebanon. I’m left wondering where all the end-time alarmists are.

The strangest disconnect would have to be the area date setters. These folks have always been trying to claim that some near-term date is the zero hour for the rapture or some other tribulation event. Now they are focusing on dates that are years down the road. Right now, all the big money is on 2012. I’ve seen some other people point to 2118, 2026, and 2037. I believe the devil is the motivator behind most date speculation, and find it very interesting that there would be a sudden shift to more distant dates.

I think we live in a period that is both exciting and frustrating at the same time. It’s exciting because we know all the warning signs seem to say something big is about to happen. What it makes it frustrating is seeing society fall apart, and the inability to get people to take note of our proximity to judgment.

Terry and I have been contacted by several folks from various media outlets who expressed a desire interview us if something big related to Bible prophecy transpires. If a war breaks out in the Middle East, they’ll come asking us about its prophetic connection. We saw this sort of thing last year with what is now called the Second Lebanon war.

We’re getting rather late on the prophetic clock, so I can’t make any absolute promises that we’ll be around to respond to the next major event. Someday my email inbox might receive the following series of messages:

Todd, millions of people around the world are missing. Can you tell me if these disappearances have something to do with Bible prophecy? — 9:12 AM.

Todd, did you get my earlier email? — 1:30 PM

Hello is anybody there???!!!??? — 3:45 PM

Hamas Overtakes Fatah Kills Them In The Streets

All these people know is killing and torture.

“The Battle for Jerusalem” by Jack Kinsella

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Forty years ago, on June 7, 1967, Israeli Defense Forces captured East Jerusalem from the Jordanians at the conclusion of the Six Days War.

I don’t want you to miss the significance of this event. In 589 BC, King Nebucadnezzar of Babylon imposed a siege on the city that lasted for more than three years:

“And it was in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzer King of Babylon came, he and all his hosts, upon Jerusalem, and he encamped upon it and built forts around it. And the city came under siege till the eleventh year of King Zedikiah. On the ninth of the month famine was intense in the city, the people had no bread, and the city was breached…” (II Kings 25).

The city’s starving inhabitants were helpless to stop the marauding Babylonian conquerors from sacking and burning the city of God and His Temple.

“And in the fifth month, on the tenth of the month… Nebuchadnezzer came… and he burned the House of the L-rd, and the King’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem… and the entire wall surrounding Jerusalem was destroyed… and Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, exiled the remaining multitude…” (Jeremiah 52).

When the Babylonians left, they took with them the priceless solid gold Temple treasures, together with the cream of Judah’s intelligensia, craftsman, royal family and the cream of Jewish society, who were enslaved into the service of the Babylonian king.

From that day, 586 years before Christ, until June 7, 1967, the Jews were never again sovereign over either their holy city or the Temple Mount.

Eventually, they were permitted to rebuild the city and Temple, but did so under occupation by a succession of Empires; Babylon, Persia, Alexander the Great’s Greece and finally, Imperial Rome.

In AD 70, the city and 2nd Temple was again sacked and burned and its inhabitants were executed or forced into exile — an exile that lasted for nearly two THOUSAND years.

During this period, Jerusalem was alternatively fought over and possessed by various papal armies, Muslim armies and, from 1517 until 1917, by the Islamic caliphate of the Ottoman Empire.

In 1917, Jerusalem was captured from the Ottomans by the British during the First World War. It was administered under occupation by the British for the next thirty years before it was turned over to the United Nations.

In 1947, the United Nations declared Jerusalem an ‘open’ city. During the 1948 Jewish War of Independence, the Arabs captured Jerusalem and sealed the roads leading to the city to keep it out of Jewish hands.

The Jewish Defense Forces, (then called the “Haganah’) built an impossible road nicknamed “The Burma Road” through the seemingly impassible mountains the surrounded the city.

Thus bypassing the main road, the Jews were able to lift the siege on the city and capture its western half, just days before the UN imposed a cease-fire.

For the next two decades, Jerusalem was divided between the Jews on the West and the Arab-held ‘Old City’ to the East.

When Israel won its independence, the countries to which the Arabs fled, primarily Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, promptly interned them in ‘refugee’ camps.

In early 1965, Yasser Arafat created the PLO and declared the existence of a ‘Palestinian’ people out of the Arab refugees who fled in advance of the Arab attacks in 1948.

He raised up a fighting force from within these refugee camps, and coordinated terror attacks against Israeli border regions as part of a pan-Arab strategy known as the ‘entanglement theory.’

This involved using sabotage to force Israel to adopt an offensive position, which in turn would force the Arabs to step up their military preparedness.

This cycle of action-retaliation-reaction would lead to a gradual escalation of tension on the borders, and eventually to the Six Day War in 1967.

On June 1st, 1967, Israel was confronted by an Arab force of some 465,000 troops, over 2,880 tanks and 810 aircraft. The armies of Kuwait, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Iraq were contributing troops and arms to the Egyptian, Syrian and Jordanian fronts.

On June 7, 1967, the Jews had recovered the Biblical territories of Judea and Samaria and, for the first time since Nebuchadnezzar’s siege, were in sovereign control over a united, city of Jerusalem under Israeli rule.

By every existing tenet of accepted international law, the territory captured in the process of beating back the 1967 war of aggression was legally Israel’s — hence the saying, “to the victor go the spoils.”

That is how virtually every nation on earth came to be.

For example, the territory of the United States consists of territory captured from Great Britain, France, Spain and from the indigenous tribes of the American Indians.

Canada was formerly British and French. Mexico was once Spanish, then French, then Spanish again before winning its independence as a sovereign nation.

The Ottoman Empire fell to the Allies to do with as they wished. The Allies didn’t want it, so it was theirs to give away to whomever they chose.

Following the San Remo Conference 1920-1923, the League of Nations assigned British Colonial Secretary Winston Churchill to draw up new borders for what was then called “The Fertile Crescent” comprising what had been known as Palestine, Syria and Mesopotamia.

With the stroke of Churchill’s pen, the ‘Fertile Crescent’ was divided into what is modern states of Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Kuwait, Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the states of the modern United Arab Emirates.

All these nations were created out of the ’spoils of war’. The borders of the Arab states were HANDED to them by the Allied forces who conquered their land FOR them.

Under the terms of the Balfour Declaration of 1917, a tiny corner at the confluence the new borders of Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria was designated as a homeland for the Jewish people.

The Arab states — that owe their own existence to the largesse of the conquering Allies — claim Israel is their land, stolen from them by the Jews. Such a claim SHOULDN’T pass the laugh test. It shouldn’t.

And if it were anywhere BUT Jerusalem, it wouldn’t.

The Arab states might CLAIM a land grant from Allah, but their borders were drawn by Winston Churchill. By contrast, Israel’s borders were drawn by God. And Israel’s current borders weren’t granted, but paid for with Jewish blood.

Jerusalem’s claim isn’t like other national capitals. It centers around land PURCHASED, in cash, from its rightful owner, a Jebusite named Ornan, for 600 shekels of gold.

The site of the Temple Mount was Ornan’s threshing floor, ALSO purchased, for an additional fifty shekels of silver.

The purchaser was the King of Israel and the deed is more than three thousand years old.

It was subsequently stolen, given to others (by conquest) and reconquered 2500 years later, by its original owners, and paid for, this time, in blood.

There is no other city on earth like Jerusalem. It is truly the center of the world. No event in this tiny city (population 740,000) goes unnoticed on the world’s stage.

It is hard to imagine there is a person on earth, no matter how remote his location, that never heard of Jerusalem. Certainly, there is no city on earth whose ownership is more hotly disputed by more people.

It’s GDP is abysmal ($1000 per year per capita). It has no major industries. It has neither proven oil reserves nor mineral wealth. It is neither a major commercial crossroads, an industrial hub nor has it any ports or other transportation values.

But it is the most hotly contested, and therefore, the most strategically important city on earth.

There is not a single nation on earth who takes a neutral position on the question of Jerusalem’s ownership. And not a single nation on earth that unequivocally supports Israel’s right to possess it.

In 1967, Israel declared Jerusalem its eternal, undivided capital. Forty years later, not a single nation on earth maintains its embassy there. Not one.

The Quartet is preparing to ‘impose’ a solution on the city. There are discussions (and even resolutions) DEMANDING the UN re-divide the city between Arab and Jew, by force, if necessary.

Zechariah predicts that, once Jerusalem is again in Jewish hands;

“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.” (Zechariah 12:2)

For forty years, Jerusalem has been at the center of global attention. More UN resolutions contain the name of “Jerusalem” than all the rest of the world’s cities combined.

“And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.” (Zechariah 12:3)

The US Congress passed the Jerusalem Act in 1995 requiring the US to move its embassy to Jerusalem. The 9/11 attacks, according to Osama bin Laden, were a consequence of the West’s continued support for Israel and for Jerusalem.

That is exactly what Zechariah predicted would be the situation when the Jews regained sovereignty over Jerusalem, and it is exactly the situation as it exists today.

The 9/11 attack was the event that began the global ‘war on terror’ which, when viewed devoid of politically correctness, is nothing less than a war over the existence of Israel and sovereign control of the city of Jerusalem. It is a world war that threatens the continued existence of both civilizations.

Zechariah predicts that Jerusalem will be divided one more time:

“Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.” (Zechariah 14:1-2)

The battle lines are being drawn, even as we speak. There is a growing global consensus that there is only one way to end this war.

Take East Jerusalem away from the Jews and give it to the Arabs. Either that, or watch the world go up in flames.

It is a foregone conclusion that some kind of solution must be imposed. Even Washington has come to the same conclusion, although it has not yet acquiesced to what it knows is the inevitable. All the signs say that it will.

And this is what Zechariah says will happen next:

“Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when He fought in the day of battle. And His feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.” (Zechariah 14:3-4)

Zechariah is describing the 2nd Coming of Christ. And before that event takes place, first comes the Rapture of the Church.

Among the signs given by Jesus of His Second Coming is this cryptic reference: “and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. ” (Luke 21:24)

He also says, “THIS GENERATION” shall not pass, until all these things be fulfilled.” (Luke 21:32)

Forty years (the commonly accepted benchmark for a Biblical generation) after Israel ended the rule of the Gentiles over the city of God, the world is preparing for an all-out battle for Jerusalem.

Which is precisely the scenario outlined by the Hebrew prophets more than two and a half millennia in advance.
